Scripture: 1 Samuel 30:1-6
Description: In order to flee Saul’s relentless pursue, David fled to Philistine’s territory. David, his small army of men and their families are living in Ziklag, a city given to him by one of the Philistine lord, Archish, king of Gath. While David and his men were marching out to battle with Archish, Ziklag was attacked by the Amalekites. Wives, children, livestock were all taken as spoils. When David and his men returned to find what happened, they were in utter despair, to the point of talking of stoning David.
When David makes a decision, he takes responsibilities for it by living with and facing the consequences. However, he doesn’t face it with his own strength. He finds his strength to continue to lead his army with God’s strength. In doing so, he defeats the Amalekites and rescues all of the kidnapped wives and children. This is what it means to be a man (or woman) after God’s own heart.
